IITs opt for huge Fee hike

All the 23 Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) of the country has hiked the fee from Rs 90,000 to Rs 2 lakh per each Student. The new rule will come into effect from next Academic Year onwards.
In March this year, The Standing Committee of IIT Council (SCIC) responded positively to the proposal of fee hike by more than two times to that of the amount charged so far.
Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani completed waived Tuition Fee for students from Backward Class and Physically Challenged studying at the IITs. In addition, Students who's Family annual income is below Rs 5 lakh will receive 66% concession in the fees.
As of now, SCs, STs and BCs occupy 15%, 7.5% and 27% seats respectively in 23 IITs.
