The equation between Mahendra Singh Dhoni and then BCCI Chief N Srinivasan who is the owner of India Cements which owns IPL Franchise Chennai Super Kings came under scrutiny after the exposure of 2013 IPL Spot-Fixing Scandal. It's been reported by Media that Dhoni had defended Srinivasan's Son-in-Law Gurunath Meiyappan before the Enquiry Committee appointed by Supreme Court. CSK Skipper was serving as Vice President of India Cements at that point of time.
For the first time ever, Dhoni opened up on the whole episode: 'It's absolutely lie that I told the Probe Panel that Gurunath Meiyappan was just a cricket enthusiast. I can't even pronounce the word 'enthusiast'. I just said Meiyappan had nothing to do with CSK's on-field decisions'.
Dhoni doesn't hesitate to say N Srinivasan is someone who was always there to help the cricketers.
In his recent interview, N Srinivasan told he shielded Dhoni and ensured he doesn't lose captaincy after poor results in England & Australia tours. 'How can Dhoni be sacked as captain a year after lifting the World Cup?,' he asked.
Whenever he is in Chennai, Dhoni goes to Srinivasan's residence or India Cements office. He was also present for the opening ceremony of the Tamil Nadu Premier League which was launched by TNCA for which Srinivasan is the President.
