In the coming years, Covid to become a childhood disease!
By: Tupaki Desk | 13 Aug 2021 10:21 AM GMTIt's been more than one year since the Covid entered the world. Even after more than one and a half of years since it's emergence, the Covid continues to ring the danger bells.
When the third wave of Covid is likely to hit a few countries across the world, a famous researcher has come up with a piece of good news for the world.
Ottar Bjornstad who works at the Department of Biology at the famous Pennsylvania State University had conducted the study and said that the Covid might become a seasonal disease in the coming years.
The researcher said, the respiratory disease will impact the children more in the coming days as the adults are taking vaccines.
Being exposed to the pandemic will also make the adults immune to the pandemic and the children will contact the virus.
Drawing a comparison between Covid and other pandemics, Ottar Bjornstad predicted that like the other viruses, Coronavirus might also become a seasonal disease.
Highlighting the age-patterns in the cases of other pandemics, Ottar Bjornstad said, the Covid would have an impact on the younger generation.
Tracing back the history, the researcher had stressed about the Russian flu that had a devastating impact between 1889-1890. He said, how the Russian flu became the cold virus from being the deadly virus that had claimed over one million lives, Covid would also go in the same way.
For the study, the researchers have used the realistic age-structured (RAS) mathematical model. The demographics of various nations that have different population counts were also used in the study.
Elaborating more on the age factor and how it plays a big role in their recent study, the researchers are quoting the examples of how the older age group is seeing more fatalities due to Covid.
According to the study, the younger generation is likely to get infected more by the Covid in the coming years. However, by that time, the Covid virus will remain as a seasonal disease.
This study comes at a time when the underdeveloped countries are worried about the possible third wave that is expected to hit the countries very hard.
