In the middle of tussle with AP govt, Nimmagadda releases election notification
By: Tupaki Desk | 23 Jan 2021 11:10 AM GMTAmid growing tussle between the Andhra Pradesh government led by CM Jagan and State Election Commissioner(SEC) Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar over the Panchayat elections, the latter is going ahead with the polls.Though the issue has reached the top court Supreme Court with the government moving the court challenging the High Court’s verdict on the polls, the SEC has issued the election notification.
The tussle has been going between the government and SEC over the past few months. While the government is very strong on its decisions to not go for the polls, the SEC wants to hold the polls as per the schedule. The government wants to postpone the elections, as various departments are involved in the Coronavirus vaccine drive.
After issuing the notification, SEC Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar addressed the media. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the behavior of the panchayat raj commissioner and secretary.With the panchayat raj commissioner and secretary failing to submit the data of the voters as per the 2021 elections, the SEC will hold the local body polls going by the 2019 rolls data.
As one more twist, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary(CS) Adityanath Das has sent a letter to Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar asking him to halt the election process till the Supreme Court gives its verdict on Panchayat elections.
Nimmagadda faced another brutal shock with CS, DGP, and other officials skipping the video conference on the Local Body elections in the state.As per the election notification, the polls will be held in four phases. Barring the Vizianagaram and Prakasam districts, the polls will be conducted in 11 districts.
The first phase of the polls will be commenced on the 5th of February, while the second, third, and fourth phases will be held on February 9th, 13th, and 14th respectively. The polling time was fixed from 6.30 am to 3.30 pm.
