Major Step Towards Nirav Modi Arrest

Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi are the prime accused in Rs 12,700 crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam. They both left the country in January this year, by the time the scam got exposed. Indian Government have concrete information about Modi's stay in Hong Kong at present.
Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh informed Rajya Sabha last week that India sought the provisional arrest of Nirav Modi by the Hong Kong. While responding on the request placed by India, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) is free enough to take decision on Nirav Modi's arrest as per the judicial agreements with India.
On Sunday, Mumbai's CBI Special Court issued Non-Bailable Warrant against Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi.
The request placed by India before Hong Kong is a major step in preventing Nirav Modi from changing his current location. This move could also lead to his arrest and deportation to India any time soon.
