India dethrones New Zealand to claim No.1 in ICC rankings

The Wankhede Stadium became the witness of India's stunning victory.
The resounding victory helped India to reach the top position in the International Cricket Council(ICC) Test championships rankings by dethroning blackcaps New Zealand. India set a target of 540 runs in the second innings. The blackcaps did not get a required start while chasing the big target.
Mohammed Siraj gave a perfect start to the Indian attack by claiming the top three wickets. Having received a good start, the spinners took over the attack and claimed the remaining seven wickets. While New Zealand was bowled out for 62 in the first innings, the blackcaps were skittled for 167 giving a victory of 372 runs.
Right Handed batsman Mayank Agarwal who played his part in setting up a good total with 150 and half-century in first and second innings respectively received the Man of the Match award, while ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin received the Man of the Series Award for his 14 wickets.
Team India had retained its top position in the ICC rankings in the Test format with 124 rating points. Losing the Test series made New Zealand fall to the second position with 121 points.
Improving the record on home soil, the Test series marks the 14th series win in India that too a consecutive one. The stunning victory in the second Test also marks the half-century of wins for Virat Kohli, who now has 50 victories in all the formats, making him the only player to do so.
