India Gearing Up For Plasma Treatment For COVID-19
By: Tupaki Desk | 10 April 2020 8:46 AM GMTIn what it could be a piece of good news, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that India is gearing up for the plasma treatment for the COVID-19 patients who are in a critical situation.
The process includes deriving the plasma from the recovered patients and injecting the same plasma to the people who were infected with the dreaded virus. This generates antibodies to combat the virus.
To grab the plasma the officials will pick people who have earlier tested positive and recovered from the virus and did not show any positive signs of the infection for 2-3 weeks.
"We have to seek approval from Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) before initiating the trials among patients," said Manoj Murhekar, Director of National Institute of Epidemiology, ICMR.
Ths plasma testing will be started as a pilot project in God's own country Kerala which is the second most hit state in terms of the positive cases.
