The Covid had a devastating impact on various fields including sports. Various tournaments were either canceled or postponed due to the fear of the virus spreading. The most popular tournament in the world, the Indian Premier League was also hit by the pandemic. As a result, the last two editions of the game were not hosted in India.

Ahead of the 2022 edition of the tournament, former skipper and serving Board of Control for Cricket in India Chief Sourav Ganguly said that there are high chances for IPL to be held in India except for unwanted situations erupts.

As a piece of good news for the cricket fans, Sourav Ganguly said that the upcoming season of the tournament might be held in India unless the Covid won’t get severe. He also gave an insight into the venues where the matches would be played.

"As far as venues are concerned, we are looking at hosting the matches in Maharashtra - Mumbai, and Pune. We will take a call on the venues for the knockout stages later," Sourav Ganguly said at the press conference.

Sourav Ganguly's statement on the possibility of India hosting the upcoming edition of the game came ahead of the mega auction. The two-day Mega Auction will be held in Bengaluru.

All eyes are now on the forthcoming mega auction as close to 600 players made themselves available for the auction. The teams will pick players from the pool who can fit into their requirements. The players' pool includes Indian players, overseas players, capped and uncapped players.

As another aspect to look for, the total number of franchises in the tournament will reach 10 as two new teams, Lucknow Super Giants and Ahmedabad team, have made their way into the tournament. The Lucknow team had picked KL Rahul as the skipper, while the Ahmedabad team had picked the 'new Helicopter Shot King' Hardik Pandya as the captain.

The existing teams have retained a few players from the respective teams and the rest of the team players will be finalised after the mega auction. It is interesting to see how the teams will pick the players.
