India not prepared for third wave of Covid, say experts
By: Tupaki Desk | 26 Jun 2021 8:14 AM GMTIs India prepared for the third wave of Covid? The experts say that at this slow rate of vaccination, India may not be in a position to tame the third wave. They feel that vaccinating a mere 30 or 40 per cent of the total population of the country may not be enough to control the third wave. Scientists say that since the country is vast and the population is huge, the pace of the vaccination is bound to be slow.
According to microbiologists and virologists, given the intensity and severity of the attack, at least 85 to 90 percent of the country's population has to be vaccinated. Otherwise, the damage from the third wave could be very high, they say. These comments assume significance as there are several predictions of an intense third wave. As of now, only 4.1 per cent of the county's population is totally vaccinated, which means they had taken both the doses. Around 19 per cent have been vaccinated once. Out of the 82 crore population, at least 16 crore have been vaccinated. This is simply not enough, say experts. At the current rate, only 60 per cent of the population would be vaccinated by March next year. It would take another year to vaccinate the nation completely.
Experts feel that India is not fully equipped to face the third wave. They say that there could be more problems if the people do not follow the covid norms. Experts estimate that the third wave could strike the country within four to six weeks.
