UK-based consultancy Cambridge Analytica misused the Facebook data of 1.7 crore Americans for the 2016 Trump Campaign only to influence the voters. The undercover operation of India Today brought to light about the Indian versions of Cambridge Analytica.

Many Political Consultancies have been working in India for either parties or candidates. They have the personal data of citizens in the constituencies.

New Delhi-based Janadhar founder Manish disclosed his election management company obtained data of voters from telecom firms, shopping apps, job portals, retail chains, DTH firms and banks. Both offline and online services have been offered by these firms. Functioning of these companies are more or less similar to Cambridge Analytica.

Manish managed to obtain email data of two lakh voters from the South Bengaluru Constituency. The information include Name, Address, Mobile, SIM, PAN, Aadhaar, Credit Card and even Financial Details. After getting the data, Voters will be flooded with several messages only to influence them. This campaign can influence 5-6 percent of the voters.

Services offered by such consultancies don't come cheaply. Manish demanded Rs 1.2 crore for data from one single Assembly Constituency.
