After surpassing the mammoth one million-mark the other day, India yet again reported the highest spike of cases in a single-day with as many as 34,884 fresh infections in the last 24 hours.

With this, the total cases in the country mounted to 10,38,716. The total casualties in connection with the ongoing pandemic increased to 26,273 with 671 fresh casualties reported in the last 24 hours.

On a brighter note, 6,53,751 patients managed to recover from the respiratory disease so far, while the active cases stood at 3,58,692.

Maharashtra(2,92,589 cases and 11,452 fatalities), Tamil Nadu(1,60,907 cases and 2,315 casualties) and national capital Delhi(1,20,107 cases and 3,571 fatalities) continue to be the worst-affected states in the country. These states account for around 70% of the total cases in India.

On the other hand, Telangana reported a total of 1,478 fresh infections on Friday taking the toll of the total cases in the state to 42,496. So far, 403 people succumbed to the dreaded virus.

Fellow Telugu state Andhra Pradesh reported the highest surge of cases in a single day with 2,602 fresh cases on Friday which takes the total cases to 40,646. 492 fatalities were reported in the state as of now.

Globally, 14,179,014 were infected with the dreaded virus, while 598,508 lost their lives to the fatal disease. So far over 8,441,846 have been recovered from the respiratory disease.
