In a shocking development, India reported as many as 48,916 fresh infections in the last 24 hours, taking the total infections of the pandemic in the country to 13,36,861.

Looking at the fatalities, 757 patients breathe their last breath battling the contagious disease in 24 hours, and the total casualties in connection with the virus mounted to 31,358. The other day, India overtook Russia and turned out as the sixth-worst affected nation in terms of fatalities.

India reported record recoveries in a single day with 32,223 and the total recoveries in the country zoomed to 849,431. The active cases stood at 456,071. The recovery rate rose to 63.53%, which is the highest so far.

As per the information provided by the Union Health Ministry, Maharashtra( 357,117), Tamil Nadu(199749) and national capital Delhi(128,389) are the top three worst-hit states in the country and account for 70% of the cases in India.

With the states- Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Assam reporting more cases recently, the cabinet secretary held a review meeting with the Chief secretaries(CS) of the states and directed them to follow the norms issued by the Centre.

Globally, the total infections zoomed to over 15.7M, while 6,38,000 people succumbed to the respiratory disease. So far, 8.98M people recovered from respiratory disease.
