India reports lowest single-day cases since two months

In a piece of good news, India reported the lowest single-day Coronavirus infections in 58 days. India, which once reported more than 4 lakh cases in May has been seeing a downtrend in the cases.
Seeing a big dip in new cases, as many as 1,20,529 people across the country were infected with the deadly virus on June 5. The new addition of cases pushes the caseload to 2,86,94,879.
Despite the fresh cases coming down, the single-day Covid casualties have increased compared to yesterday. While 2,713 people breathed their last on Friday, 3,380 people succumbed to the virus in 24 hours. So far a total of 3,44,082 people lost their lives due to the pandemic with a mortality rate of 1.2 percent.
Looking at the recoveries, 1,97,894 people have managed to beat the virus in 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 2,67,95,549, with a recovery rate of 93.4 percent. The country’s active case toll is now at 15,55,248.
The data issued by the apex biomedical research body Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR) said, as of June 4, a total of 36,11,74,142 samples have been tested, while 20,84,421 samples were tested on Friday alone.
Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh have witnessed the highest single-day cases, making them the severely hit states. The five states account for a lion's share of cases in the country.
