India sees highest single-day cases so far with over 1 lakh cases

In the last 24 hours, India recorded not less than 1,03,558 fresh Covid infections, and the total tool of cumulative cases has increased to 1,25,89,067.
The fresh infections are the record cases reported in a single day since the pandemic has hit the country. Even during the peaks of the virus in September, India reported 97,894 on 16 September 2020.
Despite the restrictions and partial lockdowns, Maharashtra is still a severely hit state and a major contributor to virus infections. In the last 24 hours, Maharashtra witnessed not less than 57,074 fresh coronavirus infections.
When the single-day infections are increasing massively, the fresh casualties caused by the virus are decreasing gradually. In the last 24 hours, India witnessed 478 new casualties and the total fatalities have zoomed to 1,65,101. On Saturday, India witnessed record casualties in nearly six months with 714 fatalities.
Looking at the recoveries, not less than 52,847 people were declared cured and discharged from the hospitals in the past 24 hours. So far a total of 1,16,82,136 patients have been cured of the respiratory disease. The active cases stood at 7,41,830.
With 10 States and Union Territories contributing more than 91 percent and 90 percent of infections and casualties respectively, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a key review meeting and has sent specialists team to Maharashtra, Punjab, and Chhattisgarh to help them tackle the situation.
