India Sees Record Single Day Cases Since With Over 72,000 Cases

In the past 24 hours, India witnessed not less than 72,330 fresh infections, the highest infections in a single day since last 2020. With this, the total number of infections rose to 1,22,21,665.
Maharashtra continues to be the leading contributor to the country's caseload as the state added 39,544 infections on Thursday. Chhattisgarh and Karnataka too reported the highest cases with 4,563 and over 4,000 cases respectively.
The last time India witnessed these many fresh infections on a single day was on the 10th of October in 2020. On Oct 10, India witnessed nearly 74,000 infections. On Thursday, India saw 72,330 cases.
India added the highest number of infections in nearly six months after seeing a record number of Covid fatalities on Wednesday. With 459 more people losing their lives to the pandemic, the total Covid related deaths hav mounted to 1,62,927.
On the other hand, nearly 40,382 people were declared cured of the virus in the last 24 hours, and the total recoveries in India rose to 1,14,74,683. The active cases stood at 5,84,055.
The fresh infections in the country are mounting up at regular intervals and the single-day cases are slowly inching towards the infections reported during the peaks of the infections in September last year.
Earlier, in its report, the SBI claimed that the second wave of the pandemic has started, and by the middle of April, the nation might witness the peaks of the second wave of the Coronavirus.
