India sets its target on ODI series with South Africa
By: Tupaki Desk | 19 Jan 2022 5:34 AM GMTTeam India which is touring in South Africa currently is gearing for another high-intensity series. Having lost the Test series, Men In Blue are now eyeing the 50-over series. The first match of the series will kick start today. White ball skipper Rohit Sharma will miss the match as he is recovering from his injury.
Replacing Rohit Sharma as the skipper, KL Rahul will lead the team and he will start the innings for India as an opener. KL Rahul will serve as the skipper for the three-match ODI series, owing to the unavailability of Hitman Rohit Sharma.
In the press conference, KL Rahul said he is seeing the ODI series as a good opportunity to be the skipper of the team. Calling himself a balanced person, KL Rahul said he had learned a lot from MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.
Adding further, the Right-handed batsman said he played at different positions in recent times. Giving more details on his batting position, KL Rahul said he would open the innings as Rohit Sharma is missing the series.
The ODI series marks the first series after Virat Kohli lost his captaincy in the 50-over format. As the BCCI felt that having different captains for White ball games will not be good, Rohit Sharma was made the full-time White ball skipper.
Virat Kohli fans are hoping to see the player shine with his bat in the series. They are also pinning high hopes to see Virat Kohli scoring a ton to keep an end to the long-time waiting.
Virat Kohli has a high chance of breaking many records in the series. Virat Kohli now has 70 centuries to his name. 27 in the longest format and 43 in the 50-over format. If Virat makes another ton, then he will equal the record of former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, who had 71 centuries across the formats.
Virat Kohli is just 113 runs short of emerging as the third player from India to have more than 1,000 runs in four countries. Virat already has over 1k runs in India, Australia, and England. If things go Virat's way, he might go past the mark in South Africa as well.
