India vs West Indies: India adds Unique record in T20 format!
By: Tupaki Desk | 19 Feb 2022 6:36 AM GMTGiving fans a mini heart attack, the Men in Blue led by Hitman Rohit Sharma had crushed the West Indies to win the second T20 in a dramatic turn of events. Thanks to Indian bowlers, the match turned in favor of India in the death overs. This made India defeat West Indies by eight runs.
While India won the T20 series with one match left, the team had achieved a rare and big record in the shorter format. India’s win in yesterday’s match marks the 100th win in T20s, which is next only to arch-rivals Pakistan. While India won 100 T20s, Pakistan won 118 matches.
India emerged as the second team in the history of the game to record 100 wins. Showing its dominance in the format, India recorded a better winning percentage than Pakistan. The arch-rivals had 64.4 percent of wins, while India recorded 65.23 percent of wins. Despite playing more international T20s than Pakistan, India has a better percentage.
West Indies had won the toss and asked India to bat first. India did not get an ideal start as India lost both openers for less score. However, Run Machine Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant helped India put up a good score of 186. Both batsmen powered the Indian team with half-centuries.
West Indies had a slow start for the run chase. Indian bowlers made sure that West Indies won't get any advantage in the early overs. Till the 9th over, the match went in India’s way and later the West Indies took over with Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell targeting the Indian bowlers.
When the equations and runs seemed getable, Swing King Bhuvneshwar Kumar and new sensation Harshal Patel put breaks to the West Indies. The two speedsters had produced some fireworks with the ball and restricted the West Indies batsman.
The T20 series win is a special win as it also marks the second whitewash for Rohit Sharma as the skipper. The second and consecutive whitewash win came in quick time. Rohit Sharma added a white-wash to his name as a white-ball skipper in the ODI series.
