Indian Diplomat Vidisha Maitra Finds A place In UN's ACABQ

In the tight elections, Vidisha Maitra secured 126 votes from the UN members, while her opponent Mohammed Faeq Al-Dabag of Iraq managed to secure 64 votes.
She has been recommended to the General Assembly by the Fifth Committee of the General Assembly. Her term will last for three years, which starts from the 1st of January, 2021.
T S Tirumurti, India's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador announced the news of the Indian Diplomat's win through Twitter and expressed his gratitude for the UN members for voting for the Indian diplomat.
The Indian diplomat's win can be cited as a significant win for the country as she was elected when India will be sitting in the United States Security Council for two years as a non-permanent member starting from Jan 2021.
The members of the US General Assembly will be elected by the member states. 193 member states will vote for the members. Geographical representation and personal qualifications will be considered for the elections.
