US: Indian-origin man slapped jail sentence for stalking and kidnapping estranged wife

An Indian-origin man, who lives in Texas state in the United States was slapped with 56 months of prison term and three years of supervised release, as he was found guilty of kidnapping and stalking his estranged wife.

Going into details, Sunil K Akula, 32, who stays in Texas traveled to Agawam, Massachusetts in 2019 and confronted his estranged wife. The duo had been living separately then. He reportedly assaulted his wife and get into his car, reports claimed.

After the victim got into the car, Akula assaulted her when he drove the vehicle through various states. He forced his wife to resign from her job and reportedly destroyed her laptop after she sent her resignation letter.

Later, Akula took her wife to a hotel in Knox Country and assaulted her reportedly. While he was leaving the hotel, the local cops arrested him and took him into their custody.

After Akula was put in police custody, he is said to have called his family back in India and reportedly asked them to speak to the family of his wife and ask them to withdraw the complaints from the law enforcement officials.

Media reports claimed that Sunil K Akula had pleaded guilty to the charges of kidnapping, stalking, obstruction of justice, and witness tampering. Once he completes his jail sentence, Akula will be deported to India.
