The government agency United States Agency for International Development (USAID) that aims at helping the communities and countries to proposer has appointed its new mission director.

Indian origin Veena Reddy has been selected as the new USAID Project Manager and she took over the office recently.

She made history by being appointed in the post as Veena Reddy is the first Indian-American to hold the post of project Manager for USAID-India.

The government agency confirmed the appointment of Veena Reddy in the new post and opined that her experience and leadership will come in handy in the development works of USAID.

"Today, Veena Reddy was sworn-in as our new Mission Director. She will be the first Indian-American to lead USAID-India, representing the best of both countries, and aims to bolster US-India's development partnership leveraging her unique experiences and leadership," the Agency tweeted.

Earlier, Veena Reddy rendered her services as the Assistant General Counsel and she used to take care of the activities of USAID in countries like Asia, Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Veena Reddy was a BA Graduate from the University of Chicago, later she completed her MA from the same University. She also earned a Juris Doctorate from the prestigious Columbia University School of Law.

Veena Reddy had earlier worked in Haiti in the position of Deputy Mission Director. She took care of issues pertaining to the reconstruction works after the horrific earthquake, economic growth and others.

After she was appointed as the new Mission Director at the prestigious Government agency in the United States, Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu had extended his wishes to Veena Reddy via Twitter.

"Best wishes, Veena USAID-India. India-USAID partnership has the potential to make a difference to the lives of people not only in India and US, but across the world!" he tweeted.

Veena Reddy has been working as the USAID Mission Director since 2017. She came to Cambodia in the same year. She is leading the staff of 75 members who take care of areas like health, education, environment and others.
