According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, About 1,48,707 people got killed and 4,82,389 suffered injuries across India in 2015. This means, 407 people die in the country per day only because of road mishaps.

Speaking at the Road To Safety Conclave, Union Minister for Road and Transport Nitin Gadkari commented more people died in road mishaps in the country than in all the wars India has fought so far. 'India, A Road Accident happen per minute. Total accidents per year stood at 5 lakhs. It's a alarming situation! Traffic issue need to be addressed. Existing road infrastructure could no way match up to rapid increase in count of vehicle traffic,' he says.

Till date, India has fought five wars and there are 10,253 casualties. The count of road accidents is 15 time bigger than people killed in these five wars since Independence.
