By: Tupaki Desk | 30 Dec 2015 5:43 AM GMTAs per the recent reports of Health Ministry, India currently have the second highest number of female smokers in the World after United States.
Experts say, This is also a reason for rise in cases of infertility and cancer risk among Indian women.
In India, Cigarette consumption stood at 93.2 billion sticks in 2014-15 against the production of 117 billion sticks. Compared to the usage in 2012-13, There is a sharp decline in overall consumption but upward trend continues in case of women smokers.
Across the World, Number of women smokers have nearly grown three times from 5.3 million in 1980 to 12.7 million in 2012.
Anti-Tobacco Activists demand Government to levy tax on every type of tobacco products including gutka, bidi and etc., to bring down the consumption rate further.
