In the fourth match against Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India found two heroes in the form of Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar. The duo set up a new record with their heroics with the bat.

India, which is chasing Australia's first innings score of 369 lost early wickets. At 186, India lost the wicket of Rishab Pant. With this, the hopes of Indian fans took a massive dive.

Then two inexperienced allrounders walked to the crease with 170 runs behind. The duo did the most unexpected and made a record partnership of 123-run stand for the seventh wicket.

The duo has broken the record of highest partnership for the second wicket against Australia in the Brisbane Test previously held by former Indian skipper Kapil Dev and Manoj Prabhakar.

While Kapil Dev- Manoj Prabhakar pair added a 58-run stand for the seventh wicket in 1991, Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar broke the record by posting a 123-run stand.

In the 123 run stand, Shradul Thakur and Washington Sundar have scored 67 and 62 runs respectively. The duo reached their median half-century with their heroics.

The record partnership between Shardul and Washington helped visitors to restrict Australia's lead to 33 runs. India has managed to add 336 runs to the scoreboard.
