Insects found in VJY's Durga Temple Prasadam
By: Tupaki Desk | 3 Oct 2016 6:38 AM GMTReports of insects in laddu prasadam offered at the Durga Temple in Vjayawada began doing rounds since Yesterday. News Channels have aired the visuals of dead flies, butterflies and other insects at the spot where laddu preparation is being done.
Temple Authorities didn't bother to maintain cleanliness in the premises. The prasadam was stored in an open area and workers have been packing it by removing the insects.
After the channels brought this news to light, Health Officials reached the spot, conducted inspection and seized it immediately. It should be noted that the contractor didn't bother to cook the jaggery properly. In addition, the laddus were stored in an open area without even a cover and insects which landed on it died.
However, Durga Temple's Executive Officer Suryakumari claimed laddu preparation is being done in a hygienic environment and stale laddus were withdrawn from the sale counters.
Contractor is being paid Rs 255 for Kalai (Approx 520 laddus) by the Durga Temple Authorities. 100 gram laddus were sold for Rs 10 each.
