Budget 2018: Interesting Story Behind Budget Briefcase!
X
Today, Finance Minister of India, Arun Jaitley introduced the 2018-19, budget bill for financial year. This is the fifth budget of BJP led NDA Government and this is the last one before General elections too.

So, many expected the budget to be more concentrating on welfare schemes for poor and the ministry, delivered on the same lines.

We do not want to discuss at length about the budget in this piece of news article as we have done that in few other articles for you to read and understand. Hope, you are finding them helpful.

Now, let's discuss about a ritual that every Finance Minister follows before entering into the Parliament. We see them smiling to the camera with the Budget Briefcase, that is, the briefcase that contains budget document.

Arun Jaitley gave a wide smile with the briefcase and that caught our attention. There is an interesting story behind this gesture.

The story goes to a times when India is still under British rule, that is 150 years ago. The first Indian budget was presented in 1869 by George Ward Hunt, then Finance Minister.

He made sure that he prepared a good budget document by taking into account the vast diversity of Indian country and it's economy. He worked so hard that he forgot to bring the document with him on the day, he was supposed to present the budget document in Parliament.

Hence, from next year, every time a minister arrives with Budget Briefcase, he smiles to camera to say that he did not forget the document.

Well, this has now become a tradition and people except the finance minister is about to deliver a good news as they enter laughing into the Parliament.
