Is Chennamaneni Ramesh Still A German National?

There is more trouble for TRS MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh, whose citizenship is in cloud. The Central Government has categorically told the High Court that Ramesh is not an Indian citizen and showed evidence that he had travelled to Germany on December 16 last year on a German passport from Chennai airport.
The Union government argued that Ramesh held a German passport as on December 16 and was thus a German citizen. Ramesh had not relinquished his German passport, the assistant solicitor general for the Government contended. Ramesh’s citizenship has been cancelled by the Government after his political rival and Congress leader Adi Srinivas has filed a case against him. Ramesh, who was a German citizen, had contested and won as an MLA twice so far. Srinivas said that Ramesh was not an Indian citizen and post- a comprehensive enquiry, the Centre has declared that he is not an Indian citizen. This only shows that Ramesh was committing a fraud on the country by being an MLA while holding a German passport, said Srinivas’s counsel.
If the court rules Ramesh as not an Indian citizenship, he will also stand to lose his MLA post. The court has now asked Ramesh to give an affidavit about his German citizenship.
