Finally, two major defeats later, the Congress High Command has seen reason in meeting the dissident leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad. In a major come down, the AICC chief has called 23 senior leaders for a meeting. The meeting, quite significantly, is happening four months after the letter was shot off.
Sources say that the Congress leadership is shocked by the massive defeats the party has suffered in Bihar, Gujarat, GHMC, Goa and in Kerala local body polls. The party's performance is not just disappointing, it is unnerving too. The party leadership has now decided to clean up the stables.
It wants to change the PCC chief and the legislature party leader in Gujarat, where it lost all the six sitting seats. Similarly, it wants a new PCC chief for Telangana. Proposals have been brought to appoint a new chief for the party in Mumbai. Before that, the party also wants to talk to the seniors who have called for an overhaul. One only hopes that the party begins the cleaning up act in the right earnest and gets battle ready for 2024.
