Usually, in the heat of the debate, politicians threaten to file a defamation case against those criticising them. They make a statement, get it printed in the newspapers and then conveniently forget the case. So, these are basically meant for public consumption. But in case of Karnataka former minister and Congress strongman DK Sivakumar, things are different. He seems to have taken defamation a wee bit too seriously. Without a public warning and newspaper coverage, he dropped a bombshell when he slapped a leader who demeaned him a defamation case worth Rs 204 crore.
What more, he had even deposited Rs 1.04 crore towards security for the case. The case has been filed by Vijayaura MLA Basavagowda Patil. The MLA had said that Sivakumara was lobbying with the BJP for getting the IT and ED cases filed against him lifted. He is upset that MLA has resorted to innuendo and misinformation. Hence, he has filed the defamation.
