Is Maguntas dinner politics a warning to YSRCP?

An innocuous dinner party organised by YSRCP MP from Ongole and industrialist Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy is the hottest topic of debate in the Telugu political circles in New Delhi. The presence of TDP MPs in the dinner meet and Magunta’s camaraderie with the TDP MPs has raised quite a few eyebrows.

As of now, there is no love lost between the 22 YSRCP MPs and the 3 TDP MPs. They are not greeting one another even when they cross the paths in the Parliament Central Hall. Recently, YSRCP MP Gorantla Madhav was at his invective best when he used abusive language against renegade MP Raghuramakrishnam Raju. Despite all these, Magunta chose to invite them to the dinner. All the three TDP MPs not just turned up but also took selfies with Magunta.

Political analysts are reading deep into this dinner as the YSRCP MPs were quite uncomfortable with the presence of the TDP MPs. They were also uncomfortable with Magunta’s closeness with them. Significantly, Magunta was in the TDP before joining the YSRCP before the 2019 elections. It was as if he was reviving his old ties.

Sources say that Magunta is ill at ease in the YSRCP due to intense groupism in the party in Ongole district. He is not comfortable with leaders like YV Subba Reddy and Bapatla MP Nandigam Suresh. In fact, Subba Reddy was his rival in 2014 and had defeated him. In 2019, YV had to make way for Magunta, but the bitterness continued. Now, both YV and Magunta are trying to groom their children to contest from Giddalur assembly constituency in 2024. It is perhaps this unhappiness that forced Magunta to move closely with the TDP, say sources.
