Is The Trend Of Ex Justices Getting Posts A Dangerous One?

The Union government reshuffled the Governors in many states and the concerned states saw the serving Governors transferred to other states and new Governors taking charge to render services. But the appointment of a Governor stirred a big controversy and started a new debate.

It's been more than eight years since the Bharatiya Janata Party was bifurcated. The saffron party took many controversial decisions in this period and giving good positions to retired justices is a trend it started. We have seen many times that the opposition parties are after the ruling party.

Adding more controversy, the Justices who gave verdicts on key issues were given plum posts. The verdicts in the issues are facing allegations that they are favoring one side. Adding fuel to this, the Justices are getting big positions in the government raising many eyeballs.

The Bharatiya Janata Party started the trend of appointing former justices to various positions. Starting a new era, back in 2014, former Chief Justice Of India Sathasivam was appointed as the Governor of Kerala. For the first time in India, an ex-CJI was appointed as the Governor.

The much-talked-about Ayodhya Ram Mandir is being readied and will be opened to the public from January next month. The sensational verdict given by the five-judge of the Supreme Court paved the way for this. The bench gave a unanimous verdict saying that the disputed land should be given to Hindus to build a Ram Mandir and another land should be handed over to Muslims.

Two judges on the bench were given good positions. Former Chief Justice Of India Justice Ranjan Gogoi was nominated as the Rajya Sabha member. The opposition parties alleged that the CJI was given a return gift for the verdict.

Now it's the turn of Justice S Abdul Nazeer to get a position. The sole Muslim Judge on the bench was appointed as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh.

If we look at the rule position there is no rule or regulation which says that the former Judges should hold other positions. Usually, they try to use their experiences and services to educate people. But the former Justices getting posts will only bring allegations towards the law system and raise doubts on the verdicts in previous issues.
