Is This What We Get: Women Protest Against Bathukamma Sarees!

Flower festival Bathukamma is one of the major festivals in Telangana and post the state formation, the festival has been celebrated in a big way. The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi has been giving special sarees to the women in the state as a festival gift from the government. The trend has been going on for around eight years now.
The sarees distributed this time are said to have been of not that great quality and a few women expressed displeasure over the quality of sarees. Not happy with the sarees' quality, the women are protesting how the sarees are given on a special occasions.
As per the media reports, a few women in the Mahabubabad district reportedly burnt the Bathukamma sarees as a bid to protest against the cheap quality of the sarees they received. Women reportedly asked how such poor-quality sarees can be distributed for the festival.
Women are raising their voices against the sarees saying no one will wear such quality sarees and when the government is distributing the sarees they expect good quality sarees and what they receive in return is nothing but poor quality sarees.
On the flip side, the ruling party leaders are saying that it is not a good thing to burn the Bathukamma sarees. The legislators are saying if women don't like sarees then they can refuse them rather than burn them. The concerned officials are reportedly directed to see that such things won't happen.
