Is This Why The Government Is Seeking To Curb OTT Platforms?

Why did the BJP government decide to act on the OTT platforms all of a sudden? Those in the know that the BJP has been thinking of putting some curbs on the content being broadcast on the OTT platforms.
According to the new rules that came into force from Wednesday night, the information and broadcasting ministry will now monitor the content. The real reason for this, according to those in the know, is that Modi government is concerned over the anti-Modi groups using the OTT platform to air anti-Modi content. The OTT productions like Sacred Games have overt political content that is opposed to the ideology of the BJP. Anti-Modi film personalities like Anurag Kashyap, have shifted to the OTT to avoid censorship. Hence, the government has for quite some time been thinking of bringing websites, YouTube channels and OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime and others under the ambit of content control.
There are also large-scale complaints that there is excessive sex, violence and foul language on the OTT platforms. Some have even knocked the doors of the Supreme Court seeking curbs on the sex and sleaze. Some Left leaning content providers like the Wire and the Quint are fiercely opposing this latest move.
