Is Ticket Price Hike Destroying Tollywood Industry?
By: Tupaki Desk | 2 May 2022 5:05 AM GMTThe emergence of the Covid pandemic has changed many things around us and the way the audiences and movie lovers look at films also changed at once. With shootings getting halted and theatres getting closed, movie lovers had shifted to OTTs. This had happened for more than one year.
Talking about the Tollywood film industry, the industry had dealt with a deadly crisis, and to get out of it, the idea of increasing the movie ticket rates was proposed and the Telangana government said yes to what the industry asked. This has resulted in the ticket rates going up massively in the state.
Irrespective of the scale of the film, the movie tickets can be increased in Telangana across the theatres. RRR has a separate story. It is one of the much-awaited films and it was released on a Pan-India scale. So no matter what the ticket rates are, people will run towards the theatres to watch the visual wonder which was complemented with brilliant storytelling.
Even dubbed films like KGF were allowed to hike the ticket prices. As a result, the film failed to get good collections in Telangana despite hit talk. The ticket rates were so high that many people did not go to theatres. If the ticket rates were less, then the film would have rocked the box office in Telangana.
The same is the case with Megastar's much-awaited Acharya. Besides many elements that have worked against the film, the high ticket rates also played a part in the dry collections of the film. Even the crazy combination of Koratala Siva, Megastar Chiranjeevi, and Mega Power Star Ram Charan did not help the film collections.
While Telangana has this situation, Andhra Pradesh is seeing a different situation. The movie ticket rates were reduced largely making it tough for the films to make good numbers. Though high-budget films can hike the prices, there are a few conditions that apply here.
Both Telugu states Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are seeing different situations. While Telangana is giving a free hand in terms of movie ticket rates, the situation is quite the opposite in Andhra Pradesh. The movie ticket rates row shows how dangerous too much anything is.
