It Was a Mere Business In Munugode But Not Election?

The much-awaited Munugode by-election was concluded recently. While the winner is crying in the house, the losers are crying on the roads. TRS and BJP spent crores of rupees for the by-elections which is their loss. If there is anyone who benefited from the by-poll then it has to be the voters. They received money for votes and parties tried them like key guests. For around one month they received all the facilities like food and liquor from the parties.

A big discussion is going on about the money spent on Munugode. The liquor sales raised many eyeballs. On average, Telangana sees liquor sales worth Rs 2700 crores every month. But in October, the sales went up to Rs 3100 crores and the additional sales are said to be from Munugode.

It is an open secret that liquor flowed in the Munugode Assembly constituency like water. Pictures of a pile of liquor bottles in the region went viral on social media and everyone wondered looking at those. Combined all the parties spent around Rs 400 on liquor to distribute in the region.

If around Rs 400 crores were spent on liquor alone we can understand the money that might have been spent on the intense election. Media reports said that each voter was paid between Rs 5,000-6,000.

Not just that the voters received non-veg too. Reports say that the public there received each kilo of Chicken and Mutton for festivals as an effort to woo the voters. As Chicken and Mutton cost hundreds, we can have an idea of the money that might have gone into the polls.

We have to say that the Munugode by-election raised many eyeballs on the money spent as voters received liquor, chicken, money, and other costly gifts for their votes. Though the constituency has just over 2 lakh voters, big amounts were spent on the polls. People are talking about this and saying it was business that happened in Munugode but not the election.

In the highly intense battle, TRS candidate Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy emerged victorious and defeated Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy who created the by-poll by stepping down as the MLA from Munugode.
