IYR Krishna Rao questions Bugganas budget figures

In a shocking indictment of the AP Government's budget, former AP Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao said that the annual budget has no sanctity whatsoever as the government has resorted to fudging of figures. Reacting to the latest budget presented by finance minister Buggana Rajendranath, he said tht the state was hurtling towards bankruptcy.

In a statement, he said the revenue deficit figures furnished by the State FinMin were at variance with the figures provided in the CAG report. He said that the CAG has projected a revenue deficit of Rs 45900 crore, the overall budgetary deficit was pegged at just Rs 19545 crore. He said there was a definitive attempt to scale down the deficit.

He also questioned the whole premise that the Centre would release Rs 56000 crore to the state. He said this figure was hyped up. "Last year, the state claimed that it would get Rs 57930 crore from the Centre. But, what it actually got was just Rs 43632 crore. The deficit is of the order of Rs 14000 crore. Given this situation, how can the state hope to get s 56000 crore," he asked.

He said there was no sanctity as the statistics were fudged. He said the capital expenditure as shown in the last year's budget was Rs 31198 crore.

But the actual expenditure is just Rs 18529 crore. This year too, the capital expenditure was pegged at Rs 30679 crore. Krishna Rao said that this was aimed at misleading the people of the state.
