Jagan's preparations for the 2024 elections have picked pace. He has appointed regional coordinators and has begun talking to the MLAs about the current scenario and their performance. His recent cabinet rejig is also an attempt to bring freshness to both the party and the government. Now, the latest is that he is all set to begin a door to door campaign "Gadapa Gadapaku Sankshema Pathakalu" in the state from May 1. Sources say that YS Jagan has bracketed his MLAs into four categories and has begun working on them.

The first category comprises those MLAs who are diehard Jagan fans. They are willing to sink or swim with Jagan come what may. They are the ones who did not utter a word even when they were not made the ministers. Jagan is particular that such MLAs of diehard loyalty should be rewarded with renomination in 2019 too.

The second category has those MLAs who joined the party ahead of elections Jagan is said to be exploring their winnability if given the ticket again. He is also said to be analysing if these MLAs could switch sides after winning a second time. The suspicion is that such fair weather MLAs could prove dangerous in the event of the YSRCP getting a minimum majority.

The Third category comprises the fence sitters. They are the MLAs whose loyalty Jagan is not sure of. They could be the MLAs who would join the Jana Sena or the TDP even before the elections. There are doubts about their loyalty to the party. The party leadership is said to be looking to replace them with loyal party cadre.

The last category are those MLAs who have not performed well. Their interface with the voters is very poor and their actions in the last two-and-a-half years are nothing to go home and tell about. The party has decided not to give them tickets again. It is already said to be looking for replacements for these MLAs. If all goes well, Jagan could pick up his MLA candidates quite in advance, say sources.
