Jagan's new districts to come into being on March 31?
By: Tupaki Desk | 26 March 2022 12:00 PM GMTIf all goes well, the new districts that the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government has proposed will come into effect from March 31. A notification to that effect is all set to be issued on March 31. On Saturday, YS Jagan held a review meeting with Chief Secretary Sameer Sharama, principal secretary of planning and principal secretary of the revenue department.
After the draft notification for the proposed districts was issued, as many as 9000 complaints and objections were received. A majority of the complaints and objections were from elected people's representatives. Many of them pertained to the change of the name of the districts, while some were about the location of the district headquarters. The chief secretary explained about the status of various objections.
The review meeting went on for nearly a hour-and-a-half. A majority of the complaints were about making Rayachoti the headquarters town for Annamayya district. Many wanted Rajampet to be made the district headquarters instead. Many people, including local MLA Meda Mallikarjuna Reddy have hit the streets on this issue.
Another major demand is for making Madanapalle in Chittoor a separate district. This has been a long-standing demand and the people have hit the streets here too. Similarly, the opposition to making Bhimavaram the district headquarters for the newly carved out Narsapuram district has also become a contentious issue. Jagan is planning to address these issues and the final notification would be issued on March 31.
