She won with record victory margin from the RK nagar constituency. Jaya defeated his rival Mahendran with margin of 150,722 votes.Jayalalithaa polled 160,432 votes while her nearest rival, Communist Party of India's (CPI) C. Mahendran, got just 9,710 votes .
The total votes in the constituency were around 245,000 and Jaya bagged more than 50 percent of that.Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah congratulated her over her landslide win.AIADMK activists and leaders celebrated the victory with high spirits and said the result was a forerunner for the 2016 assembly elections.
Jayalalithaa, elected from Srirangam in 2011, lost that seat and the chief minister's post after a court Bengaluru convicted her in the disproportionate assets case. Jayalalithaa returned to the top post on May 23 after being acquitted in the disproportionate assets case by the Karnataka High Court.
