Jayalalithaa's Portfolios allocated to Trusted Aide
By: Tupaki Desk | 12 Oct 2016 4:41 AM GMTThere will be no Interim CM for Tamil Nadu inspite of J Jayalalithaa's hospitalization since September 22nd. Tamil Nadu Governor Vidya Sagar Rao allocated the portfolios of Jayalalithaa to Finance Minister O Panneerselvam who is known to be her trusted aide. This decision was taken as per clause (3) of Article 166 of the Constitution of India. A press release has been issued in this regard by Raj Bhavan late on Tuesday.
O Panneerselvam willn't be sworn in as CM of Tamil Nadu. His designation as Finance Minister remains the same but he will preside over cabinet meetings. This arrangement was made based on the orders of Jayalalithaa who is undergoing treatment in Apollo Hospitals.
Apparently, O Panneerselvam took over the charge in Jayalalithaa's absence on two occasions in the past. Even when Jaya was convicted in the disproportionate assets case last year, He was appointed as the CM for a brief period. After Karnataka High Court acquitted her, Jaya won the by-poll and replaced O Panneerselvam.
