Journos Can Carry Their Phones: SC
By: Tupaki Desk | 3 July 2018 8:17 AM GMTThe country's top court has taken a historical decision. Supreme Court has passed a circular that the media representatives who cover the Supreme Court proceedings can carry their mobiles into the court. The new decision will come in to effect from today and it is applicable to non-accreditation journalists along with accreditation journalists.
Only lawyers had the permission to carry their mobiles into the court till now. As per the new decision, journalists also can carry their mobile phones.. but they have to keep the phones in the silent mode. Court proceedings should be recorded with the phone. If they fail to do that court may take action on them.
The journalists who wish to take their phones have to keep the pass issued by Registry. The pass will be valid for a duration of 6 months. Court initially thought of giving permission to only the accreditation journalists but they have also given permission to the non-accreditation journalists upon their special request. The latest decision will make way for the journalists to send the news faster. Media used to know the information of court proceedings only after the journalists come out of the court hall. The latest decision will allow the journalists to immediately send the information to the media houses in the form of text messages.
