Justice Jagdeep Singh who pronounced the quantum of punishment for self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh didn't show any mercy though the defense lawyers have pleaded for a lighter punishment. A jail term of 10 years and fine of Rs 15 lakh for each of the two rape cases has been pronounced. The amount collected in the form of fine will be offered to the rape victims.
While delivering the verdict, Justice Jagdeep Singh opined someone who don't have either concern for humanity or mercy in his nature don't deserve leniency. 'You are like a God for Victims, but you acted like a wild beast. Such a criminal offense by the one who heads a religious organization shatters the image people have on spiritual social culture and religious institutions in the country,' the Judge said.
At the time when the judgement was pronounced in Rohtak Jail, Dera Chief who sat on the floor wept and screamed, 'Please Pardon Me...I'm Innocent'. Finally, The Commandos had dragged him out after the verdict was pronounced.
