Kane Williamson resigns As Test Captain!

One of the most successful captains to ever lead the New Zealand team Kane Williamson announced that he left the Test captaincy. Ace bowler Tim Southee will replace him as the skipper. Under his leadership, New Zealand won the maiden World Test Championship trophy. The black caps defeated India in the finals.

There are a few similarities between Kane Williamson and Indian former skipper Virat Kohli. They both represented their respective teams in the Under 19 teams and eventually came into the national teams. Surprisingly they both became the captain of the national teams.

However, the New Zealand team is not doing great in the Tests for the past few years and this might have made Kane take the tough call. Kane is regarded as one of the top players in the globe. He might have also felt that he should reduce his workload.

In his official statement, Kane Williamson said that he is blessed and honoured to have led the team. Thanking one and all, the veteran player said that he enjoyed every bit of time while leading the team. He also gave a reason behind this.

The Blackcaps skipper said that being the captain is a workload both on and off the field and to reduce it by a bit he decided to step down. He also said that he spoke to the New Zealand Cricket Board before taking the decision and his aim is on the next world cups now.

"Captaincy comes with an increased workload on and off the field and at this stage of my career I feel the time is right for this decision. After discussions with NZC, we felt that continuing to captain the white-ball formats was preferable with two World Cups in the next two years," Kane Williamson said in his post.
