Kapu Community Finally Realizing Its Strength?

Caste has been a big element in the politics in Andhra Pradesh when the state was combined. Before the inception of the Telugu Desam Party, the Reddy community was a big player in politics and later Kamma community joined the row, and the power game used to be between the two communities. Over the years the power game has been going on and divided Andhra Pradesh is also seeing the same.

Though the Kapu community did not come to power in the state, it can be a game-changer given the population plus point it has. Kapu is one of the dominant castes in Telugu land and yet it is not getting the power.

Now the community started questioning the injustice and is trying to gather super. A former MP started the old debate recently and said that the Kapu candidate should be made the Chief Minister. Since then, the issue has been in the news at regular intervals.

A Co-ordination Committee of Balija, the other name of Kapu met for a key meeting in Rayalaseema and made a new demand that based on the population of the community, the candidates should be given the party tickets for the upcoming polls. Leaders of various parties took part in the meeting.

It appears like the Kapu community has understood the importance of coming to power as it has an advantage with the population. Kapu community has a bigger population than Kamma and Reddy communities in the state.

When Megastar Chiranjeevi floated Praja Rajyam Party, the Kapus extended their support to the legendary actor directly and indirectly. However, the same did not happen with his brother Pawan Kalyan. A few community leaders distanced themselves from Pawan Kalyan.

Understanding the advantage, Pawan Kalyan is also trying to woo his community. Despite criticism of catering to a particular community, Janasena is not stopping that.

Looks like the Kapu community felt that it had enough of carrying other communities like Reddy and Kamma on its shoulder and it now wants to work for itself and come to power. The internal issues among the community members are an issue that is working against the community. If it is not addressed, then it would not help.
