Are Kapus Having Second Thoughts About Pawan Kalyan?
By: Tupaki Desk | 3 Dec 2018 8:22 AM GMTThe Kapu community in the state of Andhra Pradesh nurses a grievance that it is socially weak and economically feeble. The community's general feeling is to back the party that backs them. So, when Chiranjeevi, a Kapu, launched Praja Rajyam Party, the Kapus rallied around him. Many senior Kapu leaders from almost every political party joined his bandwagon. But, ahead of the 2014 elections, Chiru indicated in so many terms that he does not stand just for Kapus alone and that he stands for everyone. Even while distributing tickets, Chiru did not really favour the Kapus.
This has alienated at least a significant chunk of Kapus from the PRP. The rest, as they say, is history. Now Pawan Kalyan has come into politics. Though a Kapu, his speeches and actions are raising many doubts in the minds of the Kapu community. Several leaders from different parties, including the Congress and the TDP, have joined Pawan's Jana Sena. But, Pawan has said in no uncertain terms that he will give no priority to any caste. He has also indicated that Kapus will have to understand his difficulties and should not demand too many seats. The Kapus are upset at this development. "Instead of helping the community, he is afraid of being branded as a Kapu leader. This has actually hurt us," say several Kapu leaders.
The Kapuleaders, we are told, are having second thoughts about backing Pawan Kalyan.
