Telangana Government called off its plans to increased the wards of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) from existing 150 to 200.

Apprently, The tenure of GHMC council ended in December last year. TRS Government issued orders on delimitation of GHMC wards in April 2015 to increase them to 200 and even the process has been initiated.

After GHMC Commissioner explained that maintaining Natural Boundaries while delimiting for 200 wards is utmost difficult and even the current staff strength is more suitable for 150 wards, The whole plan has been dropped by the State Government with immediate effect. Yesterday, The Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA&UD) Department issued orders retaining the existing 150 wards of the civic body with a population of 67.31 lakh as per 2011 census.

GHMC Elections were likely to be held by the end of 2015. TRS will be posing a challenge to dominant TDP and Congress for the first time in Hyderabad city.
