KCRs national ambitions dashed, TRS plans back to square one

Are KCR's plans to cobble up a national alternative to the BJP going nowhere? Yes, say those in the know. KCR has so far failed to get any dependable ally. His meetings with the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Trinamool Congress have not yielded any results.

At the same time, parties like Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Tamil Nadu's DMK and the Samajwadi Party have clearly indicated that there can be no anti-BJP alliance without the participation of the Congress Party. This has poured cold water on the plans of KCR to stitch up an anti-BJP and anti-Congress alliance. Thus, the third front or Federal Front plans have drawn a zilch.

Recently, both the DMK and the Samajwadi Party have held meetings with AICC president Sonia Gandhi to discuss an anti-BJP front. At the same time, Sharad Pawar has indicated that Congress Party's participation is essential in forming an anti-BJP alliance. All these have proved to be dampeners for KCR.

In another significant development, Sonia Gandhi was the chief guest at the inauguration of the DMK's Delhi office. Several regional parties, including the CPI and the CPM, have attended the meeting. There was no invite for the TRS MPs to this meeting. All these have shown that the TRS has managed to achieve nothing after all this exercise. The TRS is back to square one when it comes to the national politics.
