A key leader of the pro-Amaravati agitation and a diehard TDP backer appears to be moving away from the proposed Amaravati farmers' yatra to Vizag. Rayapati Sailaja, known to be articulate, aggressive and highly educated, is not going to be part of the yatra this time. Sources say she is disenchanted with the Amaravati politics.

Shailaja was quite active in the agitation and had forcefully put across her point of view. She along with Shiva Reddy and Tirupati Rao played a key role in the agitation. She was the female face of the agitation that wanted Amaravati to be the sole capital of AP. However, sources close to her say that she is disenchanted with the attitude of the TDP leaders, especially Chandrababu Naidu.

In the 2019 elections, she wanted to contest from Guntur 2. However, Chandrababu rejected her attempts and gave the ticket to Maddali Giridhar. However, Maddali later joined the YSRCP and is acting as an associate member of the party. She reportedly approached Chandrababu with a proposal to contest this time. However, Chandrababu reportedly struck down her proposal. As a result, she is said to have lost interest in the movement.

Also, there are allegations that she, Tirupati Rao and Siva Reddy collected huge amounts in the name of Amaravati agitation, but failed to furnish details of spending. As a result, several members of the pro-Amaravati farmers' agitation have lodged complaints against her. Left with no option, Sailaja is said to be keeping a distance from the Amaravati agitation and if sources are to be believed, she might not join the proposed north Andhra yatra.
