Female Wrestler Sakshi Malik created history by emerging as the First Indian to win a medal in Rio Olympics 2016. The whole Nation is proud of this 23-Year-Old's achievement and she is received due recognition finally.

On this occasion, Let's discuss about the First Person who won an Olympic Medal in a individual category in Independent India. He is none other than Khashaba Dada Saheb Jadhav!

Until then, Only Indian Hockey Team won an Olympic medal. Wrestler Jadhav opened the Medal tally in Individual category by bagging the Bronze medal. In the London Olympics 1948, He obtained 6th Position. He, however, won bronze medal with sheer determination at Helsinki Olympics 1952.

Jadhav was born in poor family. His father Dada Saheb who was a Wrestling Coach trained him since the age of 5. Corrupt Officials didn't permit Jadhav to represent the country in 1952 Olympics. Patiala Maharaj intervened and made sure Jadhav was included the Indian Olympic squad. Jadhav's Mother raised funds in the village for his travel expenses. Jadhav's college Principal extended financial assistance. After winning the Bronze Medal, Jadhav conducted wrestling competitions in India and used that money to clear the house loan of the Principal.

Born on January 26th, 1926 in Goleswaram village in Satara district of Maharashtra, Jadhav is a freedom fighter and took part in the Quit India movement.
