Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi conducted a late night inspection of the Union Territory on Saturday mid-night. She appeared riding pillion on a two-wheeler in the company of another woman and partially covered her face with a Dupatta. 'Found Puducherry reasonably safe at night. Helped identify areas for improvement,' she wrote while sharing the video.
Kiran Bedi received praises for being brave enough to conduct an inspection to check how safe is Puducherry for women after dark. At the same time, She was criticized for violating the law. Neither She nor the Woman who was riding the two-wheeler wore helmet. However, The 68-Year-Old clarified not wearing helmet was a deliberate attempt to check how people look at women driving a scooty at late night.
In Puducherry, CM V Narayanasamy made helmet compulsory for two-wheeler riders since May 2017. Why because, 46 percent accidents which happened last year were involved by two-wheeler riders. Whereas, Over 60 people who didn't wear helmets got killed in 2016.
