Kolagatla Veerabhadra Swamy is a one-of-a-kind politician. Though he has been an MLA only once, he is not only hugely popular but also is known to occupy the centre stage of politics. He has often been saying that the 2019 elections were his last. But, he appears to have changed his mind. He now appears determined to give another shot in the 2024 elections.

Kolagatla is known to be an aggressive politician. He entered politics and contested for the first time in 1989. He lost the elections. Since then, he had been contesting and losing the elections. In 2004, he defeated the redoubtable Ashok Gajapathi Raju and became a giant killer. But, since then, he could not win the assembly constituency again. This time around, YS Jagan made him an MLC.

However, he was not made a minister. In fact, it was reported that Jagan had promised to make him the deputy chairperson of the council. But, even that did not happen. His daughter Sravani has meanwhile entered active politics and has become the deputy mayor of Vizianagaram corporation. Many thought that he may not contest in 2024. Even he told many people that he might not contest in 2024.

However, he appears to have changed his mind. He is currently busy going from house to house and campaigning for the party. He has sent enough indications that he would contest the elections in 2024. Sources close to him say that he has already informed YS Jagan of his intentions. Kolagatla is from the Vysya community and Vysyas are present in significant numbers in Vizianagaram. Sources say he wants to retire as a minister in Jagan's cabinet.
